Early Intervention Mental Injury

Early Intervention Mental Injury (EIMI)

Our intent is to identify employees thinking of making Mental Health Injury claims that can be supported via counselling . It is about making a positive option to a WorkCover claim and facilitating an informed decision for the injured worker to make.

The service is fully customisable, and our suggestion is to have an attractive 'package' for the employee that gives them a positive alternative to the WorkCover route.  We're suggesting 2-3 sessions in 3 weeks to...

- provide immediate support to the injured worker.

- provide an accurate assessment as to whether the case is suitable for EIMI counselling or WorkCover. This report would go to both the injured worker and the employer to facilitate an informed decision.

- not remove their right to lodge a work cover claim (30 days)

Defining factors that could determine EIMI V's WorkCover

- long RTW i.e. greater than 3 months

- Complexity: Work related, home and historical factors. If we can ascertain that work is not a significant cause then EIMI counselling could be encouraged over WorkCover claim. If we can ascertain that the work is the cause of the mental health issue, mediation or internal process/review can be suggested in order to eliminate or reduce the likelihood into progression into a WC claim

 Differences to EAP:

- A modified confidentiality agreement - similar to the Victorian WorkSafe confidentiality, clearly stating that an assessment report will be provided to your employer within 30 days.

- Specific practitioners experienced in RTW counselling.

- Price is normal EAP fees for 2-3 sessions + 1 session for report writing (Assessment)

- assessment report – consistency template regardless of practitioner.

Benefits to Staff

- immediate (next day) counselling support.

- to avoid people going through the WorkCover process unnecessarily.

- To immediately support the worker and avoid a pathway into blame and victim mentality.

- faster return to work.

Benefits to Employer

- reverse the upward trend in WorkCover premiums

- faster return to work

- immediate (next day) support for staff

- an opportunity to become aware and minimise psychosocial risks and possibly more claims if the cause is related to the workplace issue
